Event description
Set in a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019 (yes, now!), synthetic humans (replicants) are bio-engineered by a powerful Corporation.

About this Event

Directed by celebrated British director Ridley Scott, this neo- noir sci-fi film is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Set in a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019 (yes, now!), synthetic humans (replicants) are bio-engineered by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to do dangerous work on off- world colonies. When a fugitive group of replicants led by Roy Batty (Hauer) escapes back to Earth, cop Rick Deckard (Ford) reluctantly agrees to hunt them down.

Visually beautiful and with groundbreaking special effects, held together with a thrilling storyline, Blade Runner is widely regarded by critics and fans alike as one of the best science fiction movies of all-time. In 1983 the film won 3 BAFTA awards with five additional nominations, including for the soundtrack, composed by Vangelis, which was also nominated for Best Original Score at the Golden Globe awards.

The films influence can be seen in numerous subsequent science fiction films. Seven versions of Blade Runner exist as a result of controversial changes made at the request of studio executives. In 2007, Blade Runner (The Final Cut), a 25th- anniversary digitally remastered version, became the only version over which Scott retained artistic control. A 2018 sequel was met with critical acclaim and has been a box office success.

This is a single showing at Hoylake Community Cinema.

Hoylake Community Cinema - Bringing cinema back to Hoylake! Independent, classic and specialist films, homemade food, licensed bar, regular Q&As and more... It's about much more than film...

Hoylake Community Cinema is a volunteer-run organisation operated by Hoylake Village Life CIC. We reinvest any profits made into the cinema through various projects, by supporting other organisations and groups, including a three year, £3,000 bursary to Liverpool University Film Studies Unit.

As of October 2018 we now screen films at the Beacon Arts Centre, The Old Town Hall, Hoylake, which is equipped with a high-quality digital projector and sound system, on a large screen. Seats are comfortable and movable; there is disabled access. Films are selected on the broad basis of international awards and nominations and critics’ reviews. Each annual season will feature a range of films from across genres: classic, comedy, drama, animation, sci-fi…

Before and after the films, audiences gather in our ‘PUB’ (Pop up bar) to enjoy homemade food, real ales, wines, teas, coffees and soft drinks.

Our patrons include actors Dai Bradley (Billy Casper in Kes), James Bond actor Daniel Craig; Alex Cox, director of Repo Man and Sid and Nancy among other cult classics,; Karolyn Grimes (Zuzu in It’s a Wonderful Life); Patricia Kelly, widow of the legendary dancer Gene Kelly and Celyn Jones, writer actor and producer (known for Set Fire to the Stars).
