Drawing on the talents of young Edinburgh musicians and the wider Edinburgh Gaelic community, come and hear a range of beautiful Gaelic songs which also cast a light on how Edinburgh and the Gaelic world have been intertwined over the centuries. Hosted by Peter Mackay – the first Makar who is also a Gaelic poet – this event will offer a glimpse of the richness of Gaelic culture.

Brought to you by in partnership with Ionad Gàidhlig Dhùn Èideann, an initiative to create a permanent Gaelic Hub in Edinburgh.

About the host

Dr Peter Mackay is a Senior Lecturer in Literature in the School of English at the University of St. Andrews. Originally from the Isle of Lewis, he is an expert in Scottish and Irish literature from 1800 onwards, and especially in Scottish Gaelic literature. In 2024 he was appointed Scottish Makar.
