SCOOP! is specially aimed at Year 12 and Year 13 students who are studying languages and who are also interested in international journalism, creative writing or design.

Reacting quickly to a changing scene and still producing quality work in an international environment are skills that many employers look for. In this challenge, your students will be up against linguists from around the region. Working to a deadline, they will have to produce a sample front page for a foreign language newspaper. They will benefit from the opportunity to improve their team skills under pressure, prove their flexibility and above all put their language skills into practice in a modern day work context. The challenge will encompass all four skills of listening, speaking, writing and reading.

The day will include:

  • A newspaper challenge for which there will be a major prize for the winners

  • A keynote talk from Simon Hart, sports journalist with UEFA

  • A presentation by the students in their target language

  • An opportunity to talk to international business people

  • An opportunity to find out more about the possibilities of language study at university.
