S1 Finding direction in the first few weeks - Professor Carolyn Oulton - Tuesday 17th October 2017, 11am-12.30pm.

  • Introduction to getting started in research in arts and humanities
  • Understand the use of an annotated bibliography

S2 Getting started with academic writing - Professor Louise Wilkinson - Tuesday 17th October 2017, 1.30-3pm

This session introduces students to the structure and style of writing in the humanities


S3 What is Humanities Research? Research in the Humanities Roundtable - Various contributors Tuesday 24th October 2017, 11am-1pm

To understand and explore the ‘nature’ of research in the humanities


S4 Literature search and review in the humanities - Dr Leonie Hicks - Tuesday 31st October, 3.15-4.45pm

The term ‘literature review’ causes anxiety. This session aims to demystify the term and explain what it involves. The session will also cover tips on writing a piece that summarises the scholarship in your field.


S5 Literature search and review in the humanities (library led) - Library Services - Tuesday 31st October, 5pm-6.30pm

The library will cover fundamental elements of a literature search and review through the online search


S6 Navigating the Archives - The National Archives - Paul Dryburgh - Tuesday 7th November 11am-2pm

TNA will be joining us to introduce their online catalogue. The interactive session will include practical exercises. It will cover all periods and geographical areas.
