S1 What is expected of disciplined researchers? - Professor Adrian Holliday - Tuesday 21st November 11am-12.30pm

This workshop provides an introduction to research for those just starting out. It offers the opportunity to discuss some of the key issues regarding the personal qualities needed to carry out your academic research effectively.

S3 The Periodic Reviews for Research Students - Professor Adrian Holliday - Thursday 9th November, 11am-12.30pm Room Lg26

In preparation for your first institutional review this workshop provides research students with the opportunity to ask questions to other research students who have successfully undergone the review process in previous years. A representative of the Graduate School will also be available to address any concerns you have with regard to the review.

In preparation for your first institutional review this workshop provides research students with the opportunity to ask questions to other research students who have successfully undergone the review process in previous years. S5 Preparing for the Viva - Professor Adrian Holliday - Thursday 7th December, 1.30-3pm

For many research students the viva is surrounded by a degree of mystery and uncertainty. This workshop aims to better define and aid familiarity with the viva process, reflecting on possible expectations and potential preparatory strategies.

S7 Managing your supervisor - Dr Soeren Keil - Thursday 2nd November, 3.15-4.45pm

This workshop offers research students some practical advice on how to effectively manage their research supervisors or principal investigator. We will discuss issues such as mutual expectations, preparing for and managing meetings, and addressing conflicts, challenges and breakdowns in communication.
