About this event
Blockchain technologies may provide traditional financial services and business processes at much lower cost and with greater speed, security and transparency. Some traditional financial institutions are already starting to apply the technology to their business processes ass blockchains might transform (and possibly disrupt) different industries, it presents both risks and opportunities to businesses, consumers and governments, and consequently new challenges for policymakers and regulators. Particular issues are raised by the expansion of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies or digital tokens. This session will feature presentations from both sides of the debate.It will provide an overview of key fintech applications, with a special focus on sustainability .

Yushi Chen - Doctoral Researcher - Sustainable Finance professional
Yushi Chen is a doctoral researcher at SPRU, University of Sussex. He finished his master at Imperial College London, majoring in climate change, management and finance. He is the UK representative at the Chinese Institute of Digital Assets and advisor at London Blockchain Labs. He also cofounds a startup, Byte, current in the CV Labs accelerator program. Yushi was a researcher in UNSG High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation, a blockchain analyst at EDF Energy - Digital Innovation Team, and a senior strategy analyst at Energy Blockchain Labs.
Genevieve Leveille - principal founder and CEO Agriledger
Genevieve is the Principal Founder of AgriLedger, a FinTech venture aiming to empower agricultural producers by democratizing their access to financial services and improving the transparency of the supply chain. Genevieve is leading the collaboration of AgriLedger with the Haiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry and other local partner ESIH for the delivery of a DLT Pilot sponsored by the World Bank. The solution is addressing the Haitian fruit farmers, their customers and families who can look forward to this year’s harvest and to reaping the benefits of market inclusion and improved food security. Genevieve has been nominated to the UK list of the top 100 BAME in technology of 2019 by the Financial Times.
AgriLedger is a blockchain/DLT systems provider focused on agricultural supply chains. Addressing the challenges of growing populations and global food supply, AgriLedger illustrates how blockchain technology can revolutionise food safety and food security. AgriLedger uses DLT for the gathering and analysis of information on small-holder farms, determining crop yields, establishing provenance, and facilitating payments and governance, with transparent end-to-end record-keeping.
Dr. Pedro Baiz - Head of research for finance BCI
Dr. Pedro Baiz is a Data Specialist with a background in engineering. He completed his PhD in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London in 2006 and remained in the same department as a Research Associate and then as a Lecturer. During his academic experience Pedro worked with companies like Airbus and Rolls Royce in a variety of Computational Engineering projects. In 2014 Pedro moved to Industry, offering Data Science Consulting services to a wide range of organisations that include some of the largest infrastructure owners/managers in the UK (e.g. London Underground, Heathrow Airport) or financial institutions (e.g. HSBC). Since 2018 Pedro was also appointed as the first Royal Society’s Entrepreneur in Residence based at Imperial College London and since 2019 Pedro works with the Blockchain Climate Institute as its Head of Research for Finance. Pedro also holds the position of UK representative for the Chairman Advisory Group (CAG) for the newly formed ISO Technical Committee 322 on Sustainable Finance.

Federica Chiappe - Sustainable development and climate advisor
Federica is Climate & Sustainability Lead at Mpowa, a ground-breaking start-up that aims to solve the global energy crisis through decentralised power generation, a tokenised payment system, and consumer-owned data. She is an international climate change policy and finance expert, supporting developing countries to develop and fulfil their pledges to the Paris Agreement, and to progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She has a background in development economics, having worked for more than 12 years in over 20 countries across the globe.
