Blood Rites Staged Reading
Event Information
Description
Blood Rites is a new play written and directed by Eileen Bellot. The reading follows a weeks R&D residency at Arcola Theatre. Scratch performances of extracts from the play were also performed in 2018 at The Vault Festival & Arcola Theatre.
Brief Synopsis: The Sisters Three want to reclaim Queen O’ Hallows back into their fold so that all ages of women’s wisdom is once again revered. But to do that, Queen O’ Hallows must learn to wear her crown with the pride and wisdom that comes with being middle aged.
Queen O’Hallows is tasked to connect with Maria her mortal persona, getting her to gather a circle of women to celebrate Maria’s transition to menopause. A can of worms is open when the women gather and start sharing their menstrual stories, revealing incidences of rape, taboo, murder and mental health problems. What happens to the pain and shame carried through generations when stories are left untold. Will these stories help or hinder Queen O’Hallows in claiming her Queendom?
