Time: 09.00 Welcome & Registration. Event runs 09.30 - 16.30.

Location: Kings Medical Practice, Normanton, WF6 2AZ (opposite ASDA in the centre of Normanton)

Overview

This course has been designed to provide an introduction to understanding blood results and interpreting results inline with clinical presentation. The session is aimed at Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Practice Nurses and will address common issues relevant to blood testing, discuss the normal ranges and interpretation of these within a primary care setting.

It will provide an overview of the relationship between normal physiology and disease processes and provide guidance to interpretation of results within clinical context using a case study approach to facilitate the application of theory into practice.

The following tests will be included:

  • Full Blood Count; Haemoglobin, ESR, Platelets Haematinics

  • Patterns in anaemia, White Cell Count

  • Clinical Biochemistry; parameters of the normal biochemical markers,

  • Renal function tests, Liver function tests

  • Cholesterol and HBA1c

  • Thyroid function tests

  • Inflammatory Markers such as C- Reactive Protein

This session/workshop will help you:

  • Understand why you request a blood test including professional responsibilities

  • Learn the basic physiology behind blood tests

  • Interpret normal blood test ranges

  • Highlight abnormal results and what they mean

The session will be led by Caroline Williams, MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice, PG Dip in Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care, Independent Nurse Prescriber and NMC Registrant Panel Member.

First time to Kings Medical Practice?

Our training venue is easily accessible by car with cheap parking immediately opposite. If you are attending for a training session longer than 1 hour, here's a hint; don't use the ASDA car park. For the ecological amongst you, Normanton railway station is only a 7-minute walk away and there are regular buses that run to and from Wakefield and the surrounding district. For the more adventurous, there is a secure covered area for cyclists.
