Description

Join textile artist Deborah Manson to learn how to make beautiful natural blues and patterns on cloth using indigo dye and and Shibori: Japanese folding and tying resist dye techniques.

Bring along some lightly coloured cloth to dye, or something you’d like to transform like a garment or homeware. Indigo works best on natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, wool and silk.

1 x plain cotton tote bag will be provided for you to dye.

This one-day workshop will give you an opportunity to experiment with the magic of indigo and create a series of samples and your own individual Shibori textile bag.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with more experience.

All materials will be provided but you must bring a selection of lightly coloured fabrics, 100% cotton, linen, silk or wool. PLEASE NOTE : COTTON / LINEN FABRICS MUST BE PREWASHED AT A HIGH TEMERATURE, SILK, WOOL MUST ALSO BE PREWASHED.

Please also bring a pair of rubber gloves.

*Please note this course is suitable for children over 8yrs old with an accompanying parent/carer who has bought their own ticket. Children over 14 years old may attend unaccompanied, at full price. Parent/carers must attend the start of the session to register their child and supply an emergency contact number.

Deborah Manson studied Illustration at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and went on to work as a designer. In 2004 she qualified as a teacher and taught graphic communication. In 2016 she gained an MA in Textiles from Chelsea College of Art. She works from her studio in Sussex where she makes hand dyed and printed textiles using natural and sustainable approaches to design. Whether working with paper or textiles she enjoys the interplay of colour, shape and the spaces in-between. Her work reflects her interest in the cross overs between art, craft and design. She teaches courses and workshops in Sussex and beyond.
