Blue Stockings

Jessica Swale's play Blue Stockings tells the story of four young women at Girton College, Cambridge, in 1896, who fight for their right to graduate and achieve equal education in a patriarchal society that believed their place was at home. Facing strong opposition, scientific arguments against their intelligence, and the stigma of being a "blue stocking" (an unnatural, educated woman), the women must also navigate distractions like love and class divides to challenge the prevailing views and secure their right to degrees.
