Bluebell Wood

The Woodland Trust:

Beacon Hill Wood is a beech and Scots pine woodland situated on a prominent ridge at the eastern end of the Mendip Hills. The stunning scenery and range of archaeological features make this a fascinating wood to visit, Bronze Age burial mounds, old quarry pits, Roman Roads and a central circular earth bank with a single standing stone are just some of the features to look out for. Springs, ponds, gullies, rides and glades add to the unique landscape and lower parts of the wood are carpeted with bluebells in Spring

This three hour workshop will take place at the Beacon Hill Woodland Trust reserve. After meeting at the car park we will commence by taking a short stroll to the woodland entrance. Once in the woodland, I will begin the workshop with advice on basic settings for the camera and give some ideas, hints and tips - viewpoint, lens selection, depth of field and exposure will all be covered. It is at this point when participants are welcomed to ask any questions, after which, you will disperse (but not too far!) and choose your own bluebells in which to photograph. I will then, in turn, see how each of you are getting on, on a one to one basis.

Numbers will be limited to a maximum of just 8 participants to enable me to spend quality time with each, something impossible to do with much larger groups.

It is advised that you keep the whole day free so that we can easily reschedule to a later time should the weather be inclement in the morning.

Fitness: Easy, though there will be a fair amount of walking on uneven surfaces in the woods on this workshop. You will also sometimes get better shots from ground level

All levels of photographer are welcome, whether you are new to the world of photography, a knowledgeable amateur or a professional, this workshop provides you with the skills to take your photography to another level

Suggested Equipment:

  • DSLR/Bridge or CSC camera
  • Macro lens (if you have one)
  • Knee pads (optional!)
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Appropriate clothing if cold or wet

Any Q's please email: info@shutter-bugs.co.uk
