About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Woolley Wood is an ancient woodland that hosts a spectacular display of bluebells every spring. Bluebells are one of the key indicator species for this age of woodland, along with some other wildflowers we'll meet along the way.

Today the wood is also home to several distinctive tree species, including yew, wild cherry and hornbeam. We'll be identifying them and finding out why they stand out from the crowd.

All attendees will be provided with a link to a downloadable tree ID sheet prepared to accompany the walk. This lists the key tree species that are found in this location and the characteristics by which they can be identified.

This walk is part of a series hosted by Sheffield Woodland Connections throughout the city.

Adult tickets are £8 plus booking fee, kids go free.

Although the walk route will stick to main footpaths it will include some moderate slopes, including some steps, and it is best assumed that paths are muddy.

Meet at the small car park just off Ecclesfield Road, S9 1NW, to the southeast of the wood, 5 minutes before the stated start time.

This car park is 150m northwest of where Ecclesfield Road crosses Fife Street. Look for Woolley Wood Playground on maps. Parking for a limited number of cars is available here.
