Event description

Description

Tuesday 15th May 2018, 14:00 – 17:00, PMS Lecture Theatre, RILD Building, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS FT, Barrack Road, Exeter EX2 5DW

Higher trainee doctors aspiring to Consultant roles need to start early when it comes to developing and evidencing the non-clinical skills sought by employing Trusts.

Alongside our detailed guide on how to apply to a consultant post and an e-learning module: transition from specialty trainee to consultant, we are offering two local workshops in March and May for doctors in the Peninsula.

We will be highlighting three key factors for higher trainee doctors working towards your first consultant role.

  • ‘What Trusts are looking for in new Consultants’ – presented by Mr Adrian Harris, Medical Director (Royal Devon & Exeter NHS FT)
  • ‘The Consultant Interview’ – Louise Hardy, Associate Professor, University of Plymouth
  • ‘The Consultant Contract and Job Plan’ – Richard Griffiths, BMA Regional Officer for Devon & Cornwall

We have asked senior management leading Devon’s Acute Trusts to outline what skills and attributes they are seeking in appointing new Consultants

With many years of leadership development and NHS board experience, Louise Hardy understands what organisations are seeking in appointing a new consultant to a hospital workforce. She excels in preparing clinicians for what is often considered to be an experiential leap of faith between their technical speciality and the world of leadership and corporate responsibility. Louise will deliver her top-tips for success in this pivotal job interview.

Richard Griffiths is highly experienced in guiding and supporting clinicians in the SW as a BMA Industrial Relations Officer for many years. He will raise awareness of the contractual implications and outline the importance of job plans and role descriptions for new Consultants.

Take three hours to arm yourselves with some key facts which will be invaluable in your preparation to take the next step in your career.
