Geology Special
You are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted by BMC Lakes Area volunteers, with local BMC volunteer Richard Langthorp guiding the route. This walk will explore the geology of the impressive Glenderaterra Valley and one of its tributaries (Sinen Gill), returning to the starting point along the same route we went out. Learn how ancient mudstones, siltstones and sandstones were squeezed and folded as they were caught up in a titanic collision of rocks of epic proportions, then altered and hardened locally by the intrusion of granite. Witness the results of incredible heat from the granite as it formed an onion-ring like pattern of minerals, and prepare for some geological gems!
