The rise of the humans - B2B marketing and social purpose.

As more and more consumer brands jump onto the purpose led marketing band wagon, can and should B2B marketers be doing the same?

In our post Colin Kaepernick age, can purpose in B2B marketing allow businesses to move beyond just selling stuff to other businesses? Is dialling up the positive intent or impact on people’s lives real? Or is it just another misguided attempt by marketers to justifying their existence.

At the first BMC of 2019 we’ll explore these themes and discuss whether B2B and B2C marketing is all just Human to human anyway.


As well as free beer, wine and food we have 4 expert speakers lined up to discuss the topic and to bring real life examples of how ‘getting human’ can help B2B marketers succeed.


Expert speakers on the night will be:

- Tim Elliot – Co-founder For Your Innovation, Entrepreneur and Mentor.

Acclaimed speaker, entrepreneur and marketing and business mentor Tim has 22 years in marketing and a wealth of expertise across a range of sectors and industries. Tim spends his time helping businesses at all stages grow using customer centred marketing strategies.

- Mary Harmon – Lead product designer at OpenWrks.

Mary is a leading digital product designer who specialises in helping early-stage businesses build trust in their products via user interviews, collaborative design sessions, applying cognitive frameworks to interaction design, and employing a test and learn process. She has helped create and implement onboarding journeys that achieve a ridiculous 88% conversion.

- Mark Saxby – Owner and social media consultant at Status Social

Mark is probably one of the most knowledgeable and expert social media marketers in the UK. Having started Status social in 2011 as one the UKs first specialist social media agencies, there is literally nothing Mark doesn’t know about using social media to drive business results. The £1.4m in direct social media sales his clients have generated speaks for itself.

- Ben Afia – Brand and language strategist at Afia and international speaker

Ben pioneered language management in business, back when tone of voice was just becoming a thing 17 or 18 years ago. Not only has he had 23 years writing for business, but he's helped global brands like Vodafone, Allianz, E.ON and Google to improve their culture, brand and communication.


Who are the BMC

The BMC is an association for B2B marketers who are passionate about moving the industry on and who want to move on in the industry. Within the East Midlands we meet up quarterly with the aim of bringing together the thriving B2B marketing community. We help B2B marketers meet, discuss and share ideas, experiences and best practices so we can all be better marketers. We also provide free beer and food for our events.
