About this event

Shout out to all women aged 30 and above, as well as gender minority skaters, residing in London, Sussex, and the neighbouring regions! Join us for a day of skateboarding followed by a visit to the Southbank Centre to see the ‘When Forms Come Alive” exhibition.

We’ll meet in the morning at Hop Kingdom for a 2 hour private session, with the brilliant Sarah from @yellowhatskateschool along to give everyone some tips.

From there we’ll refuel over lunch (food is not included, but we’ll have a private area booked for our crew).

In the afternoon we’ll head to South Bank to the Hayward Gallery for the ‘When Forms Come Alive’ exhibition and maybe if there is time after we could even hit the Southbank Skate Space together!

This event is suitable for all skill levels from beginners to advanced, although most of us are novices! We just ask that you bring your own kit and can confidently stand and push on a board.

Price includes private rental of Hop Kingdom (for no more than 15 of us) + skate instructor + museum entrance + a brilliant crew.

THE PLAN:

Meet near London Bridge Station for 9am. Quick 'Coffee and Crossant' stop at The Watch House then onto our first stop.

STOP 1: HOP KINGDOM- 10am-12pm

Hop Kingdom is an indoor skatepark in the heart of London, located under two railway arches on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. A five minute walk from London Bridge station. All ramps are moveable making it a flexible space for all skill levels.

Here we will be joined by skate instructor Sarah from @yellowhatskateschool. Sarah is a skater, surfer and snowboarder in her 30s, who has followed her passion for skating by starting up her own skate school in London. She hopes to be able to encourage and inspire other girls and women to take up skating, and to spread the joy of skating to as many people from different backgrounds as possible.

LUNCH STOP: Lunch is not included in the ticket price but we will book a space for us all somewhere near London Bridge to grab a bite and a drink before heading to our next stop.

STOP 2: THE MUSEUM- The Hayward Gallery

After a fun filled morning skate session and a quick pit stop for lunch to refuel we then head over to South Bank.

When Forms Come Alive- 'Encompassing over 50 years of contemporary sculpture, When Forms Come Alive highlights the ways in which artists have been inspired by movement, flux and organic growth: from a dancer's gesture to the breaking of a wave, or from a flow of molten metal to the interlacing of a spider's web'.

HOME TIME:

Head home approximately 4.15pm, tired and happy.

YOUR SKATING, SAFETY AND GEAR:

Skating is a brilliant sport, but you skate at your own risk. All participants must agree to the terms and conditions set out in our waiver upon purchasing a ticket to the event. A copy will be emailed to you after purchase. If you have your own board & safety equipment (helmet, pads) bring them along. If you don't want to travel with your own equipment they have a limited number to hire at Hop Kingdom at an extra charge. Pads and helmet £3 each, Boards £5 each. These need to be pre-ordered and are on a first come first serve basis, so let us know if you require this service.

TRAVEL:

Nearer to the event you will be added to a group whats app which can be used to arrange shared lifts or alternative travel meetups if required.

FOOD:

Please let us know of any allergies or dietary requirements upon booking.

COSTS: £50 per person includes skate at Hop Kingdom, Private Instructor Fee and entrance to The Museum Exhibition.

We hope you can make it! Looking forward to meeting you, The Board Women crew x

WHO ARE BOARD WOMEN?

We are a community based business getting 30+ women (and gender minorities) into board sports (skate, surf and snow) to increase their confidence. Find out more about us here: https://www.boardwomen.co

Organised by

When was the last time you fell? We believe your 30’s and beyond are exactly the right time to embrace risk, and yet so many of us stop doing just that. We struggle to find time for ourselves beyond family and commitments, however when we do take risks, the mental, emotional and physical benefits trickle into every area of our life.

Board sports are a solution for many of these issues, but they can feel intimidating to access. Whether it’s due to gender, age, or simply not having a friend to go with, Board Women brings together a community of women (and gender minorities) who need a helping hand to get started.
