Event description
Girls at boarding schools experience a male identified cold institutional response to their growth and emerging sexual identity.

About this event

In her book Boarding School Syndrome: The Psychological Trauma of the 'Privileged' Child Joy Schaverien identified a cluster of symptoms and behaviours, which she classified as "Boarding School Syndrome".

She has documented what she calls the 'anatomy', the ABC-D of this trauma.

In this talk she will address the trauma with the focus on the particular issues faced by girls growing up within an often unsympathetic and male identified institution.

It is hoped that we will have some lively discussion about these issues.
