Event description

Description

Free event, all welcome. Booking essential.

Join us for an afternoon of food and film, as we celebrate Sarah Wood’s stunning Boat People, an essay film that explores Britain as a seafaring nation, looking at human movement and the migration of ideas.

After a special screening, invited speakers from Jaywick, Clacton and Colchester will give personal responses to the 20-minute film and what it means to them, drawing out key themes and sharing their thoughts with the audience.

Guests include art historian Matthew Bowman, writer and historian Norman Jacobs, and writer and poet Judith Wolton, part of Jaywick Writers' Circle and 'The Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower'.

This event is part of Movement of the People, an exhibition at Art Exchange, University of Essex. It is hosted by Jaywick Martello Tower, which supports creative collaborations relating to the themes of community, heritage and environment that affect our lives today.
