Description

The speaker, Andrew Lawrence is an Associate Director at Arup and has been with the company for almost 25 years. He is the leading timber specialist at Arup and one of the UK representatives on the Eurocode 5 committee. Andrew has been involved in many of Arup’s recent timber projects including the Smile, the world’s first use of large hardwood CLT panels, and Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf which has the largest timber roof in the UK. The Haut building in Amsterdam, which will be the tallest residential tower in the Netherlands, is another project in which Andrew has played a key role.

Andrew will present an overview of some of these timber construction projects and the manufacturing techniques used, including CNC cutting. He will also put forward his vision of where timber in construction is going and discuss some of the structural challenges with working in timber.
