Event description

Description

The City of London is the historic heart of the capital, policed by the smallest police force in England and Wales, the City of London Police. On this walk you will learn about how the City has dealt with law and disorder over the centuries and meet some of the heroes and villains who have played a part in it. You will stand in the very spot where City Police officers, armed only with truncheons, did battle with gun-toting anarchists, an event that led to the famous Siege of Sidney Street, hear a first hand account of the IRA's bombing campaign and learn about the World War II have a go hero who tried to stop a jewellery heist. There's even a ghost story!

The walk complements the displays and stories told in re-launched City of London Police Museum which is now located in the Guildhall Library in Aldermanbury, and is taking place on the 107th anniversary of the Houndsditch Murders, where three unarmed City police officers were gunned down during a burglary gone wrong.

The meeting place for the walk is outside the Hamilton Hall public house in Bishopsgate, located at the top of the escalators on the eastern side of Liverpool Street Station. The walk will finish close to the Museum which there will then be an opportunity to visit.

If you are planning an outing, or looking for something a bit different to do as a group, I am happy to take group bookings for this walk to be run on a convenient date. Please contact me for further details.
