As part of the Applied Imagination Festival 2016, this interactive session covers the causes of poor body esteem, skills on how to improve it, and and offers a safe space for self-reflection. The workshop is being conducted by Maria Luisa Mendiola - a Costa Rican-American financier-turned-fashion designer who is focusing on how can fashion design and narratives improve body esteem in the disfigured community as part of her MA Applied Imagination journey
Body esteem refers to self-evaluations of one's body or appearance. Throughout the workshop, she will share her personal experience with disfigurement and also share other stories that she has compiled through her master’s project with the purpose of providing real life scenarios of how poor body esteem can be improved.
