About this event
Essentially this is an Embodied Anatomy program which will potentially run through till June (see below). You'll develop creative movement skills to enjoy opening up your dance vocabulary, let go of trying to control how you're percieved on the dance floor; you'll encounter youself through the sensation of being the wholeness of your interconnected physicality, and discover new ways of being with and expressing yourself individually and with others; with voice, breath, movement and connection.
October we explore Bone.
Bone is spongy, smooth, porous. Joints are spacious. Vertebra are a community. Limbs are fractal. Pelvis is a bowl. Ribcage is a basket. Skull three dimensional.
Ideally taken as a four week series, each week offers a new somatic movement practice through which to explore Bone. You can attend each session individually or take the month as a deep dive series to explore Bone.
The Series:
WEEK 1) HonestBody
Drawing upon Mover-Witness practice informed by the Discipline of Authentic Movement.
In non-judgemental awareness, we witness one another moving. We practice speaking from our subjective perspective, recognising our perceptive uniqueness and developing our sensitivity to subtle qualitative movement, change, transformation and listening.
WEEK 2) VocalBody
We'll engage with Active Breath and Vocal Gesture explorations from Voice Movement Integration Somatic Practice, to evolve our felt expereinece of the connection of our breath, movement and vocalising. We will sound together, improvising and developing our sensitivity to listening to ourselves as well as one another.
WEEK 3) PlayfulBody
Introducing touch as a way to connect to bone, joints, movement as a foundation to relating with space and one another with some guided improvisations exploring voice, breath, movement with and through space, our voice in relation to others, proximity & interaction. This is about connection and listening.
WEEK4) Creative Body
This week we swing back to the Mover/Witness practice, including some scored improvisations that build upon the last weeks skills. We will challenge ourselves to be seen in spontaneous creative flow, as we move with our bone-awareness, vocal-body movement connection and relate with space, one another and our BodySelves.
Thank you for having the conviction to attend to your precious BodySelf, for taking this time and space to get to know your BodySelf in more depth and breath of feeling and sensitivity. What a gift you are to yourself and we are to one another. I'm certain that those who journey for the full month together, will awaken to unknown elements of themselves and ways of being in the world. It's truly a heartening process, to embody our anatomy.
This is a no-fluff somatics program. We are getting into our sensory experience. We are not living in the imaginary, we areliving within our bodily beingness. We are encoutering ourselves/ourcells as we are, not how we want to be or how we think we should be, how we imagine we appear to be. But in every passing moment, we are meeting ourselves here.
Your BodySelf.
BEYOND OCTOBER:
The plan is to continue this Series until summer 2026, each month covering a different body system. The longevity of this program relies on your commitment to attending to your BodySelf by showing up for Somatic Sunday School each week.
If we continue through the year the months will look like something like this:
Novemeber: Muscle
December: Organs
January: Nervous System
Feburary: Brain & Senses
March: Respiratory System
April: Cardiovascular System
May: Endocrine System
June: Fascia
In this way you could endevour to participate in the full prgoram and you will have taken a full journey through your embodied experience of your BodySelf. No doubt a transformative renweal of who you beleive yourself to be.
PLEASE NOTE:
By purchasing a ticket you agree to take full responsibility for your own experience.
This program is suitable for people who have some embodiment practice already and are familiar with encountering challenging feelings within themselves which may potentially arise.
Please be sure you have the support you know you need to encounter yourself before attending this program. You may feel able to hold yourself, or you may need to have a therapist, please judge this for yourself.
Saying all of that, this is not a therapy space and as a practitioner I will not be holding the space as such. But it is important to acknowledge the reality that big feelings can arise, and that this space is one which goes by a simple guideline:
Take care of yourself first.
Secondly, take care of others.
And finally, take care of the space.
Thank you for your love of deep BodySelf inquiry, play and connection!
See you soon!
