Bog Standard: An ancient bog man’s story

By Portico Library

Overview

Ancient bog man’s story unearths magic, murder and mystery in Wilmslow - find out more in this performance with Rachel Pugh and Lucy Nolan.

The extraordinary story of a tip off which led rookie reporter Rachel Pugh to one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century - in Wilmslow - is the focus of this four-star show. Bog Standard - written and narrated by Rachel herself - is also a story about a magical place called Lindow Moss, two murders 15 hundred years apart, and how ancient bog man Lindow Man became a 21st-century eco warrior.

Award-winning journalist and storyteller Rachel Pugh and prize-winning harpist Lucy Nolan have collaborated to weave words and music, with natural sounds recorded by Lucy inside bogs in Wilmslow and Kyrgyzstan, to recreate the nail-biting days of 1984 when Rachel fought to make sure Lindow Man did not end up in a bag of plant compost.
