Bogancloch

Dir: Ben Rivers, 2024, UK, 85 min, Language: English, HIFF classification: 12

Tucked away in one of Scotland’s vast Highland forests, modern-day hermit Jake Williams lives a quiet, solitary life. Bogancloch follows his journey through the changing seasons, capturing moments when others briefly enter his otherwise secluded world. Filmed in textured, grainy 16mm, this documentary is a follow-up to Ben Rivers’ film, Two Years at Sea. The result is a captivating, dreamlike reflection on nature, solitude, music, and one man’s unique way of living. Tha an t-aonaranan Jake Williams san latha an-diugh a fuireach an Bogancloch, ann an coille air a’ Ghàidhealtachd. A bheatha tro na ràithean agus corra uair daoine eile a’ nochdadh a-steach dhan t-saoghal aige. Chaidh a dhèanamh gu mionaideach air film 16mm. Tha an aithris seo a’ leantainn am film aig Ben Rivers Two Years at Sea. Tha e mar bruadar a’ beachdachadh air nàdar, aonranach, ceòl, amhrain agus an dòigh neo àbhaisteach sa bheil an t-aonaranan seo beò.

Houston's Whitebeam / Gall-uinnseann Houston

Dirs: Alex Darby, Jake Morris. 2024 UK13 Min Language : English

At 80 years old, Libby Houston still climbs the 300-foot cliffs of Bristol's Avon Gorge (UK), studying the region's rare plant life. This is the story of her life's entanglement with the environment. Libby arrived in Bristol in the 1970s, grieving the loss of her husband and without the vibrant scene of British beatnik poets and artists in London she'd come to call home. Her enthusiasm for rock-climbing and her poet's eye combined with a newfound love of botany. This dedication filled her sense of loss and led to a host of new discoveries, establishing the area among the most important botanical sites in the UK. Aig 80 bliadhna dh’aois, tha Libby Houston fhathast a’ sreap na creagan 300 troigh a dh’àirde aig Avon Gorge am Bristol (RA), a’ rannsachadh lusan annasach an roinn. Seo sgeulachd a beatha leis an àrainneachd. Ràinig Libby am Bristol sna 1970an, a’ caoidh call an duine aice agus gun an sealladh beòthail de bhàird is luchd-ealain beatnik Breatannach an Lunnainn ris an canadh i dhachaigh. Ri linn an dealasach aice airson sreap chreagan agus sùil bàrdach agus an ùidh ùr airson luibh-eòlas, lìon a tabhartas na chaill i agus lean seo air adhart gu iomadach nuadh-lorgan, a’ stèidheachadh na sgìre am measg nan làraichean luibh-eòlasach as cudromaiche san RA.
