About this event

Every year, on Star Trek’s First Contact Day, we pause to celebrate not only the stories of exploration and discovery but also the wisdom embedded in the words of its leaders, rebels, and dreamers. In this year’s talk, futurist and professional speaker Charlotte Kemp explores the speeches of the Star Trek universe—from Captain Picard’s courtroom defenses to Janeway’s rallying calls, from Kirk’s heartfelt eulogies to Sisko’s searing reflections.

These moments of fictional monologues are blueprints for leadership communication, persuasive storytelling, and visionary speaking. Charlotte unpacks the techniques and motivations behind these speeches, exploring the ethics, brevity, passion, and vision, and shows how they still resonate in our own age of change and uncertainty.

Join us to discover how Star Trek’s most powerful words can inspire, guide, and sharpen your own voice as we navigate the future, together.

Charlotte Kemp is the Futures Alchemist, a futurist keynote speaker and futures thinking executive coach. Much like a Starfleet navigator, she helps organizations chart courses through uncertainty, navigate strange new worlds of change, and boldly imagine what lies beyond the horizon.

She is the Past President of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa (PSASA), a member of the Association of Professional Futurists (APF), and the Past President of the Global Speakers Federation (GSF). Charlotte is also the author of Futures Alchemist and other books exploring how we can intentionally and ethically shape tomorrow. Drawing on her passion for philosophy, storytelling, and science fiction, Charlotte helps audiences engage with the future and develop thinking fit for the final frontier.
