Description

This course is aimed at practitioners who have experience of simple implant placement and who

wish to further their knowledge with bone augmentation procedures.

Course Summary

This two-day course covers all aspects of hard tissue augmentation. The course includes live surgery, simple

intra-oral bone augmentation and guided bone regeneration (GBR) techniques on pigs heads.

Educational outcome

On completion of this course, delegates will understand the biology of bone graft healing and GBR procedures.

They will be able to undertake simple procedures and be aware of the techniques available for intra-oral bone

grafting.

12 hours CPD.

Mr Robert Adams

Specialist in Oral Surgery

BDS FDS RCS (Eng) MSurgDent RCS MSc (UCL Implant Dentistry)

Robert Adams is a part-time Clinical Lecturer in Dental Implantology at the Cardif University School

of Dentistry. In 2000 Robert undertook the MSc in Implant Dentistry at the Eastman Hospital.

Robert’s work is limited to dental implantology and specialist oral surgery procedures in multi-specialist

practices. He is particularly interested in hard / soft tissue augmentation procedures for peri-implant

aesthetics and grafting procedures. Robert is an Astra Tech PEERS member and a Fellow of the International

Congress of Oral Implantology. He has lectured Nationally on the surgical aspects of dental implant

treatment.

Professor David Thomas

Specialist in Oral Surgery

BDS MScD FDS RCS (Edin) FDS RCS (Eng) PhD

David Thomas is Professor of Oral Surgery and Programme Director of Implantology at Cardif

University, where he established the Implantology & Tissue Engineering MSc programmes. His main clinical

interest is in implantology, specifically the use of soft and hard tissue grafting in the management of complex

cases.

David is a past President of the Association of British Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Regional

Faculty Advisor and SAC member in Oral Surgery and a visiting Professor in Trondheim Norway.

His research group works in the development of novel nano-medicines to treat chronic infection and

inflammation.
