Event description

Description

This one-day conference has been aptly named Bones, Bodies and Disease as a tribute to the work of Dr Calvin Wells (1908-1978), who was a GP, anthropologist and a pioneer in the field of palaeopathology in the UK. After his death, the University of Bradford acquired a wealth of material collected and produced over his career due to the generosity of his wife Freddie and the work of Professor Keith Manchester. Over the past 18 months, the 'Putting Flesh on the Bones' project team, funded by the Wellcome Trust, has brought the archive together, catalogued it and digitised much of the material in order to preserve it and create a usable archive for future researchers. This conference is a tribute to the work of Calvin Wells, marks the launch of the archive and celebrates research that focusses upon bones, bodies and disease.

Keynote speaker: Professor Charlotte Roberts, University of Durham
