Event description

Description

Over the last fifteen years we have been evolving our practice. Our work stands on the shoulders of many who have come before us. We have drawn from a wide range of fields ranging from anthropology, biography, history, journalism, philosophy, social science and a whole load of books that defy easy categorisation.

The Roller Book Club invites you to explore with us key texts that have rewired our minds and hearts. We invite you to read along with us and join us for a discussion every six weeks.

You can sign up to each book club event below, and follow along on Twitter #rollerbookclub.

The Last Of The Soviets by Svetlana Alexaivich shows the power of how the individual’s story can lead to a deeper understanding of the social system in which we live. In the preconditions of a Lab, dialogue interviews are used to sense into what is alive in the system, as told through the lives of individuals. This practice is not one that dictates the trajectory of the interview, however invites a natural unveiling of narrative that then reveal both present and pressing themes in the system at play. The Last Of The Soviets shows the Soviet system from a different perspective, one told through life story and that captures events that are often overlooked from the outside.
