About this event

To welcome all book lovers of different reading preferences, our monthly book pick is simply a conversation starter - whether you’ve read it or not, our discussion topics go far beyond the book, touching on a variety of themes and interests. Our gathering is NOT about analysing the book like a seminar, but more about connecting, sharing ideas, and enjoying a relaxed, social evening with fellow book lovers over drinks.

📚 Book Recommendation of the Month:

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

Synopsis (without spoilers):

As a co-recipient of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, Demon Copperhead follows a boy born into poverty in rural Appalachia, navigating a world shaped by neglect, addiction, foster care, and survival. With sharp wit, grit, and resilience, the narrator - nicknamed Demon -tells his own coming-of-age story with heart and unflinching honesty.

Barbara Kingsolver masterfully blends social commentary with vivid storytelling, painting a powerful portrait of contemporary America’s overlooked corners. It’s a deeply human novel about hardship, identity, and the fight to reclaim one’s voice.

Our book club sessions are a great way to engage in lively and friendly discussions, share insights, and meet fellow book lovers, sometimes the author as well.

Our meeting will be held in a room exclusively reserved for us at a private member's club in South Kensington, just steps away from Gloucester Road station. We keep each gathering small - fewer than 10 participants - to ensure everyone has a chance to join and enjoy.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish the book to attend?

Not really. Our book pick is based on the most popular reads from The New York Times. If you plan to read or have read it, that’s great; if you haven’t touched it, you’re still more than welcome to join.

How can I contribute to the discussion if I haven’t read the book?

The book is simply a conversation starter - our discussions often branch out into related themes, personal experiences and broader topics of interest. Our gathering is more about socialising and engaging in decent conversations with book lovers, rather than a formal seminar.

Can I also discuss my own fav book or the book I recently read?

Absolutely! Our gatherings are all about open conversations, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on any book that’s been captivating to you.

Is this group open to everyone?

Yes! This is a friendly and inclusive group that welcomes everyone - regardless of gender, sexuality, background, or political beliefs. In the past, our attendees included not only London residents, but also book lovers who even traveled from France, the USA, and many other parts of the world.

What if I'm shy about speaking in front of the group?

No pressure! You're welcome to participate in the way that feels most comfortable for you. Whether you share your views or just listen, your presence is valued.
