Join the friendly Scottish Book Trust team for an interactive session sharing book recommendations, for pupils working across 2nd Level, that you can use as part of an interdisciplinary approach to Learning for Sustainability. We will discuss some of the latest titles across a range of genres and will include fiction, non-fiction, and poetry in our recommendations.
Scotland’s Learning for Sustainability Action Plan states Learning for Sustainability should support understanding, engagement with and the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals).
Research suggests a rich and wide knowledge of contemporary texts for children can help nurture reading for pleasure. This interactive session aims to support the development of this, highlighting texts recommended by Scottish Book Trust that you can use as an interdisciplinary approach to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals; and giving you opportunity to share your own recommendations and hear from other participants. Alongside this, we will be joined by Paul Wickham (Teaching Fellow and Depute Course Leader for BA Primary Education) and Jane Catlin (Teaching Fellow for Inclusive Education) from the Strathclyde Institute of Education, who will share an example of good practice that can be used with children in educational environments to foster inclusion and sustainability, through a creative-arts pedagogical lens.
If you'd like to attend, we'd encourage you to bring along a text that you would like to recommend to other participants to support learning around the Sustainable Development Goals! We can't wait to share our curated text suggestions with you and to hear about your selected choices.
This session is suitable for staff working with pupils at 2nd level and student teachers. It will be held as a meeting on Microsoft Teams, with meeting details emailed close to the event. For the best experience, we recommend joining the webinar using the Microsoft Teams app rather than using the browser.
