About this event

Atkinson’s novel is centred on infamous London nightclubs run by Nellie Coker (loosely based on Kate Meyrick, the “night club queen”) in the 1920s, a period when the city is recovering from the trauma of war and seeking pleasure where it can. Nellie’s nightclubs become a legendary place for London’s “bright young things” but their social mix hides a dark underworld, and Nellie’s empire is at risk.

The London Archives Book Group, an online discussion group, meets monthly and welcomes all even if you haven’t read the book - although spoilers may arise! We have a broad remit, covering fiction and non-fiction for all periods in London history. Each session includes an online presentation of original archive material to enrich the discussion.
