Enab Baladi’s weekly newspaper was launched in Daraya in the Damascus suburbs in January 2012. Their first issue marked the beginning of a revolutionary newspaper serving as a voice for the voiceless in Syria. Since then, it has been printed and distributed every Sunday, with only one 2-week stoppage in August 2012 due to a massacre committed in Daraya by Assad regime forces.

Enab Baladi has become one of the most prominent media organisations established after the Syrian uprising, with media content reaching hundreds of thousands of Syrians inside and outside the country. The journalists and activists involved had a dream for a new Syria based on freedom, justice and dignity. Over the course of eight years, Enab Baladi has documented the uprising through a network of citizen journalists; and in this book, ‘Citizen Chronicles of the Syrian Uprising’ preserves their memories as an authentic voice of the Syrian peoples long and ongoing struggle for democracy & human rights.

This is the first collection of Enab Baladi’s articles to be published in English, and maps the evolution of the paper, its journalists and the uprising.
