Event Details

Handbook of Education in China

Edited by W. John Morgan, Professor Emeritus, School of Education; Senior Fellow, China Policy Institute, University of Nottingham; Honorary Professor, School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University, Qing Gu, Professor of Education, School of Education, University of Nottingham, UK and Fengliang Li, Associate Professor of the Economics of Education, Institute of Education, Tsinghua University, People’s Republic of China

Wednesday 11 October at 1.00pm

The Handbook of Education in China provides both a comprehensive overview and an original interpretation of key aspects of education in the People’s Republic of China.

The chapters address fundamental issues facing Chinese society, including the rapid educational expansion in support of economic development in the post-Mao period, the evolution of education as public policy, concern for access to education as social justice and the parallel educational systems of the Special Administrative Regions.

Professor W. John Morgan and Professor Qing Gu will focus on some aspects of anthropological interest raised in the Handbook: such as the legacy of Maoist ideology on education and culture, the education of minorities, of migrant workers and their children, and of the disabled and otherwise excluded.

Royal Anthropological Institute, 50 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 5BT.  The RAI office is just around the corner from Warren Street, NORTH of Fitzroy Square. It is next door to French's Theatre Bookshop.
