Event description

Description

The Wiener Library is pleased to launch the most recent book by Paul R. Bartrop and Samantha J. Lakin, Heroines of Vichy France: Rescuing French Jews during the Holocaust. The book launch will include a talk by author Paul R. Bartrop, Professor of History and Director of the Centre for Judaic, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Drawing on extensive field research conducted in France, Heroines of Vichy France presents a fascinating, and largely unknown, story of rescue and resistance. In this book, Paul R. Bartrop will discuss what is arguably the first book to bring together the largely unknown stories of young Jewish women in Vichy France and their resistance effort against Nazi and Vichy France deportation policies. In this deeply researched history, Paul R. Bartrop and Samantha J. Lakin highlight and honour their memory and gives voice to those who were rescued.

About the Speakers:

Paul R. Bartrop, PhD, is Professor of History and director of the Centre for Judaic, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University.
