This is the third novel in the Charles Dickens mysteries. It is January, 1850. Charles Dickens looks down at a corpse on the empty stage of the Queen’s Theatre, Manchester. But this is not a scene from the play – it is murder. And Charles Dickens is the number one suspect, so Inspector Hardacre of the Manchester Police believes. It is lucky for Dickens that Superintendent Jones is visiting Manchester. With the help of the Superintendent, Dickens sets out to find the man who killed Clement Bell. Their search takes them to Angel Meadow, one of Manchester’s most notorious slums, to the fine houses of Ardwick Green, to Mrs Gaskell’s house, and back to London where there are more deaths and Dickens’s own life is threatened by a man who hates him.
The famously entertaining Jean Briggs will give and talk and a reading at this launch for her latest Dickens mystery. This is a free event with a complimentary glass of wine.
