Book launch: Sing to the Western Wind by Tariq Mehmood.

2nd October, 6.30pm-8.30pm at Bookmarks bookshop London WC1B 3QE

Author Tariq Mehmood will be in conversation with Amrit Wilson, followed by a Q&A.

Saleem leaves rural Pakistan as a young man to work in the mills in Bradford. Experiencing the violent racism of 70s and 80s Britain, he never stops dreaming of home. He returns periodically, an outsider in both countries. Eventually he gets caught in the crosshairs of the war in Afghanistan.

With haunting memories shaped by the contradictions of gender, caste and class structuring the plot, Sing to the Western Wind explores many of the questions about imperialist war which we are asking today.

Tariq Mehmood was the lead defendant in the landmark Bradford 12 case which established that 'self-defence is no offence'. He is a novelist and documentary filmmaker and co-director of the multiple award winning documentary Injustice.
