Book Launch: The Jungle by Pooja Puri
Sat 18 March 2017, 18:30 – 23:00 GMT
‘There was a story Jahir used to tell me. About how the first humans were born with wings. Can you imagine what that would be like? To fly anywhere in the world without worrying about having the right papers?’
Join us for the hotly anticipated launch of The Jungle by debut novelist Pooja Puri. The book is included as one of BuzzFeed’s 'Really Excellent YA Books You Need To Know About’, and follows Mico, an unaccompanied teenage refugee as he navigates the many dangers of the migrant encampment in Calais, commonly known as ‘the Jungle’.
In Pooja’s own words: 'The Jungle is a story of courage and friendship. It’s about holding onto your dreams in the most desperate of situations. I hope that the book will, in some way, act as a small step in fostering understanding and compassion to those who need it most, and that readers will want to share the story once they've read it.’
There will be a Q&A with Pooja to discuss the book, her writing and how she came to be a published author.
The London-based charity The Bike Project who fix up second hand bikes and donate to refugees and charities will also be there to say a few words about their charity.
This event is free but do please reserve a ticket so we can have an idea of numbers.
