Learn to Make a Simple Book

Inspiring you to think beyond the world of…

Everyday we pick up books, in all shapes in sizes, some with recipes to cook, others with poetry to please and always one with maths equations to decipher.

So how are these books made?  To celebrate the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth we thought it would be fun to “gobblefunk” with books, take some apart, stick bits together, glue words in different order, stitch into paper and generally make a beautiful sketchbook to encourage each child about the wonder of paper and the making of a book.

By working with maker, Joanna Wright, www.jojowright.co.uk, every child will be encouraged to create their own handmade sketchbook and will strengthen their view of a book as a space of wonder in which they can be inspired to sketch or collect the whimsy of the world around them and keep it as inspiration.

In the words of Roald Dahl, “I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful.”

Benefits to children

Children will develop an understanding of how books are made, develop book making skills and have the satisfaction of crafting their own beautiful handmade book.
