Description

with ED COOPER CLARKE (Actor/Producer)

DATE: This course is over 4 consecutive Tuesdays: 23rd January, 30th January, 6th February and 13th February or book singularly

HOW WILL IT WORK?

First-timers to Oscar-winners: every modern actor has to “tape” for roles. If you want the best chances of scoring a job or getting called in for future jobs, then this course is for you. Why? Because the only way to master something is to actually do it. Feedback is given and then you will repeat your work, gaining a greater awareness of your craft and a greater confidence in your impulses.

The course covers all the skills needed as a modern actor:

TUESDAY 23rd JANUARY: "Book The Room"... the only way to get good is through practice. In this first session you will see different real-life casting situations and practice your own audition technique in a safe space where you can (for once!) get honest feedback on your work.

We welcome people who have been on this one-off course before. No session is ever the same.

TUESDAY 30th JANUARY: The world of the "Self Tape"... How to get the best with what you have, wherever you are in the world. What to do if you don't have a reader, a camera, lights, etc! How to learn quickly and master a scene efficiently so it reads on camera.

TUESDAY 6th FEBRUARY: "The Online You"... This course is split into two parts.

1.) How to edit and upload Self Tapes to show yourself in the best light. (You will bring in a recording of yourself on your smartphone or on SD card or USB drive and the course will include constructive feedback on your work)

2.) How do you present yourself online? Do you need a showreel? What does your CV say about you?

TUESDAY 13th FEBRUARY: "Book The Room Masterclass"... using the preparation and performance skills you have learnt over the last three courses, we revisit the first session with harder (more wordy) texts and ask ourselves truly relax so that we can fully play the world of the character.

This session is for those who either have plenty of professional audition practice or have attended a previous Book The Room course.

DO THE WHOLE COURSE (4 weeks) and cover:

1.) Preparation:

- How to prepare better, the “detective work” needed and what to focus on in a script.

- How to make it your own: what you can ignore or play around with to do so.

2.) “In the room” with casting directors, directors, producers, assistants:

- How to expect the unexpected and use whatever is going on in the chemistry set of your body and mind at the time.

- Best practices in the room and how not to sabotage yourself

2.) “Self-taping”

- How to set up for a good self-tape: camera angle, lighting, what to do when you’re on holiday with none of your equipment!

- Dialogue options (and what to do if you can’t find a friend!)

- How to edit and upload your footage in the best ways

- What to do if you have a really long scene that you can’t get all in one take!

In the middle of the course, you will be asked to do your own “self-tape” at home so that we can practice editing and perfecting the footage during the class.

Our learning objectives for the workshop:

- Feeling comfortable with all the skills and best practices of self-taping

- Feeling confident enough in the audition room to really play

- Knowing how to learn lines quickly while keeping it alive - a feeling there is only your character, there is no script.

If you bring in an SD card or USB hard drive (preferably not a USB “stick” as they are so slow), you will be able to keep the recordings of your auditions, mostly filmed on Canon 70D.

COST: £100 for whole course
