Art and the Community: A reading and conversation with Nadine Aisha Jassat.
About this event
The Survivor Arts Community hosts a reading and conversation with Nadine Aisha Jassat! Nadine is a celebrated poet and creative practitioner, she was named in Jackie Kay's International Literature Showcase Selection of 10 Compelling BAME Poets working in the UK; she received a prestigious New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust; and she was a YWCA Inspiring Woman Under 30. Her debut poetry collection Let Me Tell You This was published last year.
Nadine's essays and poems are often thoughtfully engaged with issues of gender-based violence and ideas of resilience. She is also an experienced community arts practitioner with a wealth of experience using creative practice to address work around gender-based violence, including creating theatre with young people, curating an exhibition of visual art, and working with survivors through creative writing. As well as Nadine's reading, we will have a conversation around the relationship between creativity and healing, and how the arts may have the power to make change.
