Since “Nederlands” and “November” alliterate so nicely, this month we will be reading a Dutch classic: The Evenings (De Avonden) by Gerard Reve. Never fear: if you aren’t comfortable reading in Dutch, this book is available in English either in our shop or online.

If you are up for the challenge, pick it up in “Nederlands” and we can discuss our differing reading experiences. It might also be a nice change for our Dutch book club-goers to read in their mother tongue!

The Evenings catalogues ten winter evenings in the life of a man living in post-World War II Amsterdam and deals with the themes of boredom and loneliness – but we hope your reading experience will not be lonely or boring!

About the City Central Book Club
