A Bit About Us......
Our Support group has been running for over 5 years both in the community and online, where we offer face to face support and a Facebook and Twitter Page.
Are main focus is to support anyone suffering the impact of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue, however more and more people have asked if we supported other pain and fatigue related conditions or diseases. With this in mind in April 2015 it was decided that we would support anyone suffering the impact of pain and fatigue in relation to Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Musculoskeletal, Arthritis diseases and many others.
In the community we offer a support group that runs every Monday from 12pm till 3pm where the aim of the group is to promote emotional wellbeing to help gain a better understanding, education and improved management of their pain and fatigue.
We have an amazing team that has a range of specialities and a meet and greet so that people don’t feel overwhelmed by coming into a group situation, to support other issues or cater for a specific disability.
ü We offer support in terms of filling out forms for benefits including Personal Independence Payment etc.
ü Signposting if we feel its outside our expertise
ü One to One Counselling [Fees apply and signposted to outside source]
ü 24 hr Internet chat support [A vital life Line]
ü Home visits
ü Structured support sessions
ü Pain Management Courses
ü Wellbeing Courses
Our support group is run solely by volunteers and to maintain our venue and the vital support we offer we have to ask our members to contribute to keep the group running. However most if not all of our members have had to give up work due to their nature of their disabilities or issues around mental health and rely solely on low incomes. We feel that no one should ever have to feel the pressure of contributing for support their need.
Without the vital support their mental health is affected, they become isolated and desperate and in some circumstances end their lives. It is for all of these reasons why we look for as much outside support and funding we can, so that we can run as seamlessly and consistently as possible.
We are supported by Fibroduck Foundation and can use their charity status when doing events for our group as well as fund liability insurance for free. They also list us as one of their support groups on their main page and so does UK Fibromyalgia.
We have close communications with ‘Somerset Pain Management Service’ and have been assisting to delivering some of their courses, from this there is also work in progress where I have been asked to set up after care groups in Bridgwater and Taunton in combination with online support.
We are also part of FOODSHARE and collect all left over foods etc from our local Tesco store in Burnham on Sea. This food is then available to our group members.
