Event Details

Please note that bookings for this event are now closed to allow time for security checks and clearance to be given to attendees.

We are delighted and excited to be holding this event in partnership with the Army Foundation College in Harrogate - if the venue name sounds familiar you may have seen Channel 5's documentary series: Raw Recruits: Squaddies at 16. We are grateful to Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hall MBE and his team for their assistance in putting together this event and being our hosts.

The permanent staff at the Army Foundation College are by the nature of their work also L&D Professionals, and this event offers a great opportunity for our Members to hear from them, learn from each other and also have a behind the scenes tour - as well as make some new and hopefully long term connections.

Personal Development - a never-ending journey...

Whatever stage of your career journey you've reached, this event will have value not only for your own continuing professional development, but also in equipping you with new knowledge to help those you may be mentoring through their career journey.

Guest Speakers

We'll be joined by:

Lt Col Richard Hall MBECommanding Officer, Army Foundation College (Harrogate)

The Army Foundation College is the only Junior Entry Phase 1 training establishment in the British Army. The College plays a vital role in providing the basic military training and developing future leadership of Junior Soldiers.

Lt Col Hall has considerable experience of command and leadership on operations including Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as training exercises across Europe and Africa. He has commanded the College since September 2017. Lt Col Hall will discuss the Army’s command, leadership and management approach, in addition to the unique role that the College plays within the wider British Army development of its future leaders and the benefits and challenges it entails.

Dr Frances McGregor, Senior Lecturer, Department of Management, Huddersfield Business School.  Fran's session will focus on career development, and also CIPD's new Profession Map.

The session will explore the skills, experiences and approaches to employability with a focus on how you can showcase the very best of yourself in doing this.  Linking with CIPD’s new Profession Map and looking at transferable skills, the session aims to help you focus on your continual development and career next steps be this in your current role or a new adventure.

All of our branch events are organised by volunteers who give up their time freely to provide CPD opportunities for others in North Yorkshire, our speakers (who at most receive expenses only) give up their time freely to prepare and present their sessions. With this in mind, if you do book on an event and find you’re no longer able to attend – please email and give your apologies to those involved with the event – we really do appreciate this, especially in advance where possible as this might allow us to avoid catering wasteage, but if it’s an unavoidable last minute cancellation we’d still like to hear from you.
