Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

You’ve got a dream start-up-slash-side-project, you know how to do everything… but the books. We can help with that.

Come along to this 90 minute session for a friendly chat through the bookkeeping essentials for your startup. We'll talk about:

  • The financial records startups should keep,
  • how an accounting package could save you time,
  • registering for self assessment,
  • completing your first tax return, and
  • what Making Tax Digital could mean for you.

If there's a specific question you'd like to ask, please feel free to submit a question when you checkout and we'll try to cover this during the event.

FAQs

Who is running the event?

Zoe Whitman will be leading the event. She's an Associate Member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She has 15 years’ experience working in financial roles for different organisations and has started her bookkeeping practice But the Books to help people like her realise their ambitions to work for themselves. But the Books offers bookkeeping services, and specialises in working with startups and small businesses.

Who is this event targeted at?

Sole traders and partnerships who are in their first year or two of trading, or who haven't started yet.

What do I need to bring to the event?

Just yourself, slides from the workshop will be shared by email after the event.

Bookkeeping, will this be the most boring event I'll ever attend?

Hopefully not, but there will be coffee and biscuits to keep you awake.

Are you going to try to sell me something?

No, although we are a bookkeeping practice and offer bookkeeping services if you decide you need more support with your business. We're also a Quickbooks partner and are able to offer discounted Quickbooks packages, but the purpose of the event is to talk you through self assessment and the essential records you need to keep for your business, there will be no pressure to sign up to anything.

Isn't a lot of this information free from the HMRC website?

There is a lot of free information on HMRC's website and we'll point you in the direction of some useful pages in the session. In this session, we're hoping to give you a more personal guide through self assessment and record keeping, tailored specifically to startups.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
