Bookmark Reading Charity is a children’s literacy charity with a simple vision: every child should be able to read. Bookmark partners with schools in the UK’s most disadvantaged areas to foster a love of reading and equip children with the skills they need for a fair chance in life, through a flexible, volunteer-led reading programme.
Why it matters
Reading isn’t just about books - it’s about being able to read a road sign, a birthday card, or a job application. In England, 7.1 million adults struggle to read, making many aspects of everyday life more challenging.
The One-to-One Reading Programme
Volunteers spend just one hour a week, online or face-to-face, reading and playing literacy games with a child at risk of falling behind. No teaching experience is required, as Bookmark provides all training and resources.
Virtual Information Session
Bookmark runs virtual Open Sessions on Microsoft Teams for anyone interested in volunteering. The sessions cover:
