Description

A King's College London Arts in Society project.

DJs Josh Caffe, Venus Ex Machina, Shy One, Marcia Carr, and madison moore

BOOM! The Politics of Black Sound is a research project supported by the Cultural Institute at King’s College London and Somerset House Studios. British artist Evan Ifekoya and madison moore, a researcher in the Department of English at King’s College London, co-leaders of BOOM!, think about the relationships between sound and blackness, sound and queerness, highlighting black femmes, black queer female and non binary artists in electronic dance music worlds. Join us for a one-of-a-kind Rave in Blackness in The Deadhouse, a tunnel underneath the Somerset House courtyard, with music stretching from techno to r’n’b, and from house to experimental music.

Evan Ifekoya will curate a selection of sound works that explore the relationship between listening and queerness, and between listening and community, with contributions from black artists from across the gender spectrum.

Please note this is an 18+ event.

About Arts in Society
Somerset House Studios and King’s College London announce a new partnership in the form of Arts in Society. The first year of the programme has awarded six Studio residents the opportunity to collaborate with a researcher from King's to offer new perspectives on urgent contemporary social issues. A series of events will encourage audiences to engage with the research. Other recipients of the 2017 awards are: Burton Nitta; Evan Ifekoya; Imran Perretta; Phoebe Davies and Makerversity member Anne Frobeen, researching subjects as diverse as consent, migration and the politics of black queer sound.
