Born By A River presents ‘Win’ (2025)

Join Born By A River for the premiere of Win (2025), a tender new short starring Shaniqua Okwok (Small Axe) and Martins Imhangbe (Bridgerton), directed by Steph Tari Odu with Oliver Ford as DOP, and supported by BFI NETWORK.

Set in north Kent, the film follows Sascha (Okwok), a twenty-something athlete, as she returns to her family home and community following an injury, and confronts her father’s dementia. The film delicately speaks to Black women’s relationship to rest, catching our protagonist in a rare period of reflection. What emerges is a meditation on slowing down, care, and resilience across generations – a story about holding each other through change.

The evening will feature a poetry reading by Belinda Zhawi. And a Q&A with the filmmakers – an opportunity to hear directly about the process of shaping the work.
