Event description

Description

Experience a free behind the scenes tour of the juvenile mussel rearing facility or Ark as it is commonly refered to. This facility is not normally open to the public.

Last month the FBA painstakingly placed 60 mussels at 3 locations in an undisclosed river in Cumbria. Following monitoring and observation the FBA intend to release the final 40 mussels later this year. The goal is to boost natural populations of these animals, which play vital, irreplaceable roles in the overall health of aquatic habitats by serving as water filters.

Please express your interest to pearlmussel@fba.org.uk by Friday 30th June. The exclusive tour has limited places of 20. FBA members will be given priority. Donations will be collected on the day.

Meet the FBA's Project Team: Dr Ceri Gibson and Dr Roger Sweeting.
