Event description

Description

THE COURSE This two-day course provides an introduction to the skills and techniques of botanical drawing using graphite pencils. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience, the course starts with an overview of materials and how to use them, preliminary exercises and drawing simple subjects in line and tone, moving on to more complex subjects on day two. Flowers and plants, fruit, vegetables, seed heads and grasses all provide inspiration. An introduction to botany and dissections, to composition, working from life and the use of photography will also be included.

TUTOR Penny Brown worked as a theatre design and illustrator of over a hundred books before her fascination for the natural world led her to botanical drawing and painting. She is a member of The Society of Botanical Artists and exhibits in the South West, London and abroad and participates regularly in Dorset Art Weeks. She works in graphite, watercolour and cut paper collage, winning the prestigious President's Prize at the SBA 2015 exhibition. She enjoys tutoring and sharing her love of botanical drawing. In 2018 her book 'Botanical Drawing - A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Flowers, Vegetables, Fruit and other Plant Life' was published.

Lunch, tea and coffee is included for all students, please advise regarding dietary requirements when booking or on the booking form.
