Botanicals with Ink and Watercolour

Botanicals with Ink and Watercolour

By Sudbury Learning Centre

Overview

A workshop where you learn to draw plants in ink and add soft watercolour washes for natural, detailed botanical art.

Bontanical with Ink and watercolour

In this workshop you will learn how to draw and paint with watercolour and ink pens and why the combination of these two is very effective when attempting to draw and paint botanics.

You will learn the basic skills of these two techniques, how to apply colour smoothly, mixing colours and making the correct choice of shades to achieve the best effective results.

Our art tutor Marina will demonstrate different watercolour techniques and will give you clear guidance. Once you can do the basic drawing and colour layers, Marina will explain a few different ways of achieving the detailed fine veins in your botanical artwork.

You will have the opportunity to do your own botanical motif, so please bring your chosen botanical plant or a good quality photograph of the same, along with your watercolour materials.

Materials required for this workshop

You will need to bring the paints of your choice, brushes suitable for watercolour, good quality watercolour paper or canvas or canvas board and turpentine if you decide to work with oils, as watercolour.

We will be painting on tables, but if you have a tabletop or floor standing easel you are most welcome to bring these along.

Where to purchase your art materials

Depending from your budget, you can either purchase your art materials from the professional art shop Goslings in Sudbury, or you can find more affordable ones in the Works or Poundland.
